Shine bright Like A Princess....
Not that long ago, whenever someone mentioned the words 'glitter' and 'shoes' together, most people would get visions of those glitter encrusted shoes you used to wear when you were twelve. I was one of those people; I had so many glittery shoes that I thought I looked the coolest at the school disco!, and if I must admit I still think I look the cutest when I am wearing a pair of sparkly shoes on my feet.
The thing is, glittery shoes are one of my favourite trends, and I am really happy that they seem to have been brought back into fashion for the moment. I feel like I am spoiled for choice at this time of year! Take these adorable new silver flat ballerina shoes that I just purchased from Kurt Geiger. I loved them that much, I got the silver clutch bag to match! With their smart black bow as a finishing touch, these shoes are my new favourite pair as they step up to the plate and make me feel like a princess!
It's easy to think that glittery shoes only look great at the festive period, but with the right outfit you can make them work any time. Even in the Summer!.
So tell me, would you be on - board with the sparkly shoe trend?

What am I wearing today?.....
So today was a very early morning start so me and my mother could finish the Christmas shopping. Since it was going to be a busy day, I of course opted to wear something that would be comfortable and easy to move in. I am quite lucky in the fact that my wardrobe mainly consists of skirts and dresses that are incredibly comfortable.
This skirt is one of my favourite wardrobe pieces that I have ever bought. I loved it that much that I went and bought it in purple as well. Combined with my new super new cosy knit top that I recent purchased from H&M along with a hat, which is an accessory that I fee compliments every single Winter outfit.
I hope everyone has managed to finish their Christmas shopping and can hopefully relax until Sunday!
P.S - Alright, So I am not going to lie, but the skirt was bought in Miss Selfridge in the Spring/Summer season. However, it is far to adorable not to wear whenever I get the chance!
Hat - Primark
Top - H&M
Skirt - Miss Selfridge
Bag - New Look

"It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year"
Follow my blog with Bloglovin
"It's the most wonderful time of the year" - Every year at the start of December I hear Andy Williams croon these words on the radio. I have to admit, it's one of my favourite Christmas songs ever made. It makes me feel more festive every time I hear it; Not to mention, Andy Williams was incredibly right, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and I love it every year.
Now I bet most of you are realizing that this is my first blog post in quite a while, well that is very true. I could write an essay on how busy I have been with completing my undergraduate degree in Fashion Management ( I now have a fashion degree, aaahh!), or that the past year in general had taken it's toll on my personal and mental well being that I struggled to do many things. Honestly, I could go into detail about many reasons as to why I have been unavailable, but I do not need to dwell on the past.
I am currently in a much better place and I am looking forward to the future. Not to mention I am a student once more, as I have embarked on a masters degree in Journalism so I can achieve my career goal of becoming a fashion journalist. Also I have recently found a wonderful new man, and I feel as though my friendships have become stronger this year. So all in all, I feel good with where I am at right now. Of course I still have a lot more growing to do, but I feel like I am making progress.
So I decided that I needed to get back to my blog, and I couldn't think of a better time other than Christmas. I always feel wonderful at this time of the year, coming home from my studies to spend time with my family (particularly the little ones who are growing so big!), drinking hot chocolate and watching Christmas movies. I am honestly the biggest child when it comes to the festive season. Just before I wrote this blog post I was sat on my floor with a cup of hot chocolate, with tons of presents and wrapping to be done all scattered around me. Sounds hectic, but I do love it.
Not to mention Christmas brings out some of the best scenery I have seen all year. I attended Edinburgh's Winter Market with my parents just last week and I tried Nutella hot chocolate for the very first time, and I think I fell in love. Like usual it was incredibly beautiful. Of course it was busy!, like it usually is, but there is no denying that it's a beautiful sight. Also what would Christmas be without the hustle and bustle of the big cities? I don't think it would feel very festive if the cities were quiet.
While this blog post may not seem much, it means a lot to me to get back into my writing, which I aim to upkeep more as of now. Therefore I wish you all a very merry Christmas, and of course a wonderful new year!

Album of the week: Marina and the Diamonds "Froot"
So as you can all tell it has been a while since I last posted, apologies once again but I have been extremely busy with uni assignments and projects. However over the course of the past few months I have been keeping up with one of my all time favourite artists, Welsh songstress Marina and the Diamonds, who had been teasing new material from her new album "Froot", which was officially released earlier this month.
I have always been a fan of Marina since her first release "The Family Jewels" which showcased Marina's eccentric personality and often cartoonish lyrics. The album was full of soaring vocals and despite the often upbeat music there was dark questioning themes that Marina has made her specialty after three albums. For me, Marina was something that the pop music industry had been missing for sometime. Her lyrics were often sarcastic and a cynical take on pop culture and the American dream which was evidenced in the songs "Hollywood" and also "Oh no!". Marina was not afraid to show to the world that she was not the perfect polished pop star. However her follow up record "Electra Heart" would go on to be a completely different album, and Marina for that fact.
Ok I am just going to state a very unpopular opinion right now. I absolutely loved "Electra Heart", maybe more than I did her debut album. I will admit it took me a while to like this album. It was nothing like her debut and in a way it was kind of hypocritical to everything that I admired about her on her first album. Gone was the kooky synth inspired pop and in it's place was a record that was pure bubblegum pop that was heavily loaded with collaborations and productions that made "Electra Heart" come across as, to put it lightly and bluntly, fake. This is what pissed me off a bit when I first heard the album, not to mention this record saw the introduction of Marina's alter ego, the character itself Electra Heart. Forgive me if I sound pretentious but I have never seen the need to create an alter ego to promote your album, unless your Eminem, but this time I had to bite my words and admit that despite it's first impressions, the alter ego worked in this case.
Yet despite my initial reaction towards "Electra Heart" over time I would come to genuinely appreciate this record and I feel as though not many people took the time to properly listen to the lyrics, because for all it's bubblegum pop, it's actually quite a haunting and sarcastic album much like the "The Family Jewels", and at times it could be quite depressing. It was a semi concept album about female identity focusing on the various character types of the title character, Electra Heart, who was created as an archetype of how females are portrayed within the media and was the all American dream girl who is ultimately ruined by fame. Listening back to it, it's actually quite an ironic album overall and most people will still tell you to this day that Marina and the diamonds sold out with the second album but I will always tell them again to take the time to listen to the album. This was an album that was created to be an absolute satirical look at fame, love and the all American dream, unfortunately for Diamondis her character Electra Heart got out of her control and Marina killed the blonde primadonna of with sleeping pills for good.
The death of Electra Heart was certainly a fitting move to make room for Marina's newest album "Froot". Gone is the corrupted heartbreaking prima donna and it's place is a very self reflective and very bold album especially considering the title track Happy is a bold honest statement itself to open the album with and rightly so. The piano ballad sees lays the welsh songstress bare and emotionally vulnerable as she sings "I found what I've been looking for in myself, found a life worth living for someone else never thought that I could be, that I could be happy". This title track itself signals a major shift from her sophomore album.
The lead single and title track "Froot" was the first single to be released and it's easy to understand why as it's a highly infectious upbeat song. It's fast paced, energetic and filled with Marina's signature playful lyrics such as "I'm your carnal flower, I'm your bloody rose, pick my petals off and make my heart explode" which plays over deep bass line that propels the song into a futuristic 80's disco themed song. It's an absolutely bonkers song, that's why it's brilliant. Not to mention it is understated sass at it's finest.
As I have said, "Froot" is an incredibly personal and reflective album. Marina herself has admitted that half of the album is about a relationship that she felt "needed to end" and unlike most pop stars who make records about a break up, Marina doesn't act like the victim of heartbreak, she is the one who is hurting someone else because she isn't actually in love with the other person. For the first time it's refreshing to hear a pop album that isn't focused on being heartbroken but what it feels like to be the guilty one within the relationship. In all honesty it's a ballsy move for a pop star and I take my hat off to Marina creating a record that is painfully and emotionally honest. In "I'm a ruin" which is arguably one of the highlights of the album she sings "It doesn't feel right and it doesn't feel fair when I'm planning to move on and your still standing there" in those signature soaring vocals over the regret tinged catchy beat. Also in the tragically upbeat "Blue" where she sings "No I don't love you, no I don't care. I just want to be held when I'm scared and all I want is one night with you".
One of Marina's strengths has always lay in her ability to create a juxtaposition within her music with incredibly upbeat music and intriguing yet satirical lyrics that often give a dark outlook of the world and this is demonstrated pretty much throughout "Froot". That's not to say that the album is filled with darker songs than Marina has ever done, as evidenced within the title song "Froot" the record has it's moments of fun and sarcasm that we have all come to know Marina for and this leads leads me to another favourite on the record "Can't pin me down" she sings "Do you really want me to write a feminist anthem? I'm happy cooking dinner for my husband in the kitchen.......I am never gonna give you anything that you expect you think I'm like the others, boy you need to get your eyes checked" it's this satirical and sarcastic response to how others view her and want her to be, except Marina has never been one to be be tamed by one specific thing and her behavior through her lyrics can be viewed as erratic. It's one hell of a fun song and it's nice to see a pop star defy others ideals of themselves.
Despite how good this record is right from the start the best was definitely saved for the last. The final 2 tracks on "Savages" and "Immortal" highlight why Marina is one of the best pop artists in the industry right now. "Savages" is the ultimate start track on the record and emphasizes Marina's lyrical genius as an artist. The song itself is already quite well known for it's subject matter as it delves into her views on "Rape Culture" which is all to prevalent within society today. Overall this is a song that deals with humanity, what makes us human and what are we made up of? why do we commit such horrendous acts. "Were we born to abuse, shoot a gun and run? or has something deep inside of us come undone? is it a human trait or is it learned behavior? are you killing for yourself or killing for your savior.......underneath it all we're just savages, hidden behind shirts, ties and marriages". Again it's another bold move for a pop star to create such an honest yet daunting song. Despite the catchy tune the song itself is basically social criticism and bears huge relevance to what we have to deal with in society today such as rape, murder and misogyny.
After the politically humanity questioning savages, Diamondis ends the album with the moody and atmospheric "Immortal" and after the journey she has taken with all her three albums it's quite a fitting song to end the album with as her vocals tear through the chorus, "I'm forever chasing after time, but everybody dies, dies. If I could buy forever at a price I would buy it twice". It's an interesting note to end the album on, especially considering the album began on a much more lighter tone as she admits that she has finally found herself, yet at the end of this record Marina admits to herself that she still needs to leave an impact on the world and like the rest of us, she worries what will be left of her when she is gone. It's quite a frightening question if you ask yourself the same thing.
As a fan of Marina and the Diamonds since the beginning it's exciting to see her come into her own as an artist on her third record, a record that is completely untamed by it's own pop genre and probably the greatest record that Marina has created thus far in her career. It's an album filled with raw and painful emotion but also full of fun at the same time and that is a difficult thing to achieve, especially as well as Marina seems to have done. It's also the first album that I feel that we finally get to see a little bit of who the real Marina is as well as a record that is a breath of fresh air for the pop industry, overall it might just be the best pop album released this year, but I am biased considering I am a massive fan.
Overall Rating: 8/10
Loved Tracks: Froot, I'm a ruin, Better than that, Savages and Immortal.
P.S I did spend an awful long time also talking about the "Electra Heart" album and that's because I genuinely believe more people need to give this album another chance, so if you have the time check it out also!

Film review: Pride
So just the other week before I left for my big move to Aberdeen I went to the cinema with my best friend to see the movie "Pride". Alright, so I know that this review is a little late but I just had to let you all know about this beautiful gem of a movie. If there is something I love, well that is British films. Usually they are always spectacular with an extremely moving and heartwarming story and after seeing "Pride", I can tell you that this film is without a doubt one of the best and most moving British films that has been made for years.

Schnetzer) who is a confident Northern Irish social Activist and Joe (The rising star George Mackay) who is a shy closeted kid who is headed out to the gay march without his parent's knowledge. It is during this scene that Mark finds the parallels between his cause and the striking miners, so him and Joe along with Mark's friend Mike band together a small group. Outspoken Steph, Jeff, bookshop owner Gethin and his long term partner Jonathan set up a group called LGSM - Lesbians and Gay's support the miners to raise money for the starving families. Unfortunately despite their efforts the union rejects their support and the group are forced to directly contact a small community within Wales and the miners leader Dai. Initially they are met with suspicion and prejudice but they win over a certain few, notably Sian James (who is played superbly by Jessica Gunning) and a few others (Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy). Over time they begin to win over the miners who come to realise the similarities between them and the group, that LGBT rights are also human rights and one of the most unlikely yet successful alliances is forged within Britain.

Despite the heavy subject matter of the film, "Pride" is not gloomy and is in fact a heartwarming and uplifting film that is also enormously fun. It's a story of hope and courage that will make you laugh, cry and also smile and that is what makes "Pride" an extremely rare film. It packs real emotion that you can feel and unlike quite a few brit flicks it doesn't follow down the "cheesey" route and moves along at a fierce pace with vivid performances from each cast member who you can feel a sort of empathy towards.
So to finish of my review, I do realise that I seem to have extremely hyped this film up to be brilliant and that's because I truly believe it is one of the finest films to have been made this year. Actually if I have to be honest with you, I have always been a massive lover of British films and "Pride" is probably one of the best British films to have been made in years, thanks to the heart - warming and feel good story as well as brilliant performances. I guess in many ways the story of "Pride" teaches us that if something means a lot to you then you should always fight for what you believe in, no matter the circumstance and this is what makes it a truly inspiring story. It's strengths do not just lie in the humour but the successful aspirations of being the underdog as well as the decency of humanity starting to shine through a most unlikely but brilliant alliance between the LGSM group and the miners.
All I have to say is please see "Pride" while it is still in the cinemas. It is a film, that in my opinion, deserves to be seen by everyone.
Rating: 10/10

Summer holidays: What have I been up to?
So it's safe to say that I have been quite absent from my blogging for the past few months of the summer break. If I am terribly honest with you all I have been extremely busy getting ready to leave my home for university this month and I was also delivered some bad news at the start of my summer break which has hit me and my family pretty badly. However things are getting back to normal and I feel like I am getting back on my feet after a stressful few months.
So most of my Summer break has mainly consisted of spending time with my Family and friends before I head off to Aberdeen. I must admit that I have been trying to spend as much time as I can with my family before I head away seeing as in a couple of weeks I will be hundreds of miles from them, which is a rather scary thought. Of course I am ecstatic to be starting University later this month but I must admit that moving to Aberdeen will be a massive change for me, not to mention I will be at least 3 hours away from my family and close friends.
However here are some adventures I have got up to during my Summer break;
Deep sea world Aquarium

I am a massive fan of sea creatures and the sea in general, so I am a regular visitor to my local Aquarium "Deep Sea World" at North Queensferry. During the Summer I visited here twice with my Sister and her two kids. My Niece, much like myself, loves animals and she always has a blast when we go to Deep Sea World. We decided to surprise my Niece by taking her Deep Sea World and she had a ball. Honestly, I am like a massive child myself when I go here and I think the place is brilliant for kids, as most of the staff members are trained in Marine Biology and there are regular classes you can attend throughout the aquarium, where the staff members teach you all about the animals. There is also class rooms for you to go and visit where sometimes you get to hold one of the animals, such as the snakes or tarantulas. I have to say I have never been brave enough, seeing as I have a massive fear of spiders. Despite not being brave enough to ever be near the spiders, I must admit that it is quite a shock that I have always wanted to dive with the sharks at Deep sea world. I know, it's weird right? But my boyfriend has done the dive years ago and says it was excellent and I have always loved sharks, Magnificent animals they are and not to mention, terribly misunderstood.

Films, films and more films.
As you all know by now I am a massive film enthusiast. I usually go to the cinema at least three or four times a month to see the latest films. Not to mention I am going again this Friday to see "Before I go to sleep" with my parents. Rather looking forward to that film, I must admit.
So far this summer my favourite films that I have been to see are "Dawn of the planet of the apes", "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "The fault in our stars". These three films stand out as my favourite summer box office hits. Each one was very different and I absolutely loved them, I walked out of the cinema at each showing incredibly satisfied. Here is a little bit about why these three films were my favourite;
"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes"
Of course I have to say that this has been my all time favourite film this year and is my film of the summer. I have always been a massive planet of the apes fan and I have always been a great admirer of Andy Serkis and his work. I have to agree with pretty much every review for this film that it is a cinematography masterpiece. Andy Serkis is brilliant as Ceaser the ape and his work in motion capture is just phenomenal. Though credit has to also be given to Jason Clarke and Gary Oldman who I think were spectacular in their own roles. Honestly I know it's a little late but if you haven't seen this film, please do. It is an absolute masterpiece.
Guardians Of the Galaxy
As a massive marvel fan of course I was going to run to the cinema to see this film. Guardians was one film I had been hotly anticipating for some time now seeing as it had been advertised at least a year ago. Unlike some very early reviews I was never skeptical about this film, yet saying that I was still not expecting the film to be as great as it was. "Guardians" is definitely the best film that Marvel have released so far. It's funny, heartwarming, filled with action and ambitious. One of the greatest elements about this film was, much like "The Avengers", the cast worked brilliantly with one another. Definitely a must see film
The fault in our Stars
So this film was a pleasant surprise for me. I am not big on rom coms or weepy films that much but I had heard good reviews about this film so I decided to try it out. I am glad I did go to see this film because it was genuinely brilliant. Shailenne woodley and Ansel Elgort shine in the roles of Hazel and Gus, two teenagers with cancer that fall in love. I think the best thing about this film is that it is funny, charming and heartwarming as well as having the ability to make you feel emotional and I have to admit, a little teary eyed. The fault in our stars was scripted and acted brilliantly. Definitely another summer must see.
Food and cocktails
So as it was my summer holidays I have taken this time to de stress from all things college and uni related, and what a better way to relax than going out for food and cocktails with my family and friends. I think everyone knows by now that I am a bit of a food enthusiast as well and me and my best friend regularly spend our time going out for a lovely meal and wine or cocktails. One restuarant I have been visting quite a lot recently, is Zizzi. A delicious Italian in Glasgow. I absolutely love Italian food and Zizzi serve some of the nicest dishes I have ever tasted. The pasta linguini and Lasagne are among my favourite dishes to eat.

Back to Blonde
Just after my summer break began I decided that I needed a new change again in my life. Naturally that meant getting my hair done and changing the way it was. I have been growing my hair out of it's short length for quite some time now, I hope next Summer my hair will nearly be as long as it was before I had to chop it all off! I have had dark hair for quite some time now and I think everyone knows how much I like to experiment with my hair! I decided that I wanted to go back to my natural highlighted blonde for the Summer. We were having such nicer weather this year which was a surprise and after my personal issues I felt like I needed to get back to who I used to be and let some light back into my life for positivity, it's sounds stupid I know but going back blonde has made me feel more like my older and happier self for some unknown reason.

There is much more that I have got up to this summer, unfortunately not nearly as much as I wished I could but that couldn't be helped. However after this summer I am feeling ready to move away to Aberdeen and start my university degree. I can't believe just two more years and I will have an honours degree in Fashion! My future is looking great!.
I hope you all have had a fantastic Summer and relaxed for the last few months and I promise not to leave my blogging for so long next time, again I do apologize for how long I have been absent but personal issues got in the way.
Peace and Love, Rachel Couture xoxo

It's one of my best friends favourite places to eat, I have only been a few times but I have never been let down. The food is excellent. I must admit that I am a massive sucker for their "Firecracker Chicken" and trust me, this dish lives up to it's name, but if your like me and love spicy food. Then this is the dish for you.

Mallzee: The personal shopper in your pocket
"MALLZEE IS LIKE TINDER FOR SHOPPING"
- GLAMOUR
So I think it's a known fact that shopping is a girls favorite past time. There's nothing better than browsing through your favorite stores for something new to add to your wardrobe, but sometimes I must admit that I can be too lazy and that's where I am thankful for online shopping, however if your like me, sometimes online shopping can be a chore where you have to filter through tons of items that you don't wish to purchase or aren't to your taste. Well that's where Mallzee comes in. This personalized shopping app is your very own personal stylist in your pocket, where you can instantly buy your new purchases or save them for later where you can ask your friends opinion on them later.

With over 200 stores available on this app, from Urban Outfitters, Miss Selfridge, ASOS and many other of your favorite brands, your not short of choices. Meaning you can find your perfect new outfit!
The greatest thing about the Mallzee app is that it acts like your own personal stylist, right in your own hands. Something I think I am fairly in need of when I go shopping! If you feel like you need a second opinion on the items that you are thinking about purchasing, Mallzee will give you their opinion based on your fashion tastes! Which is good because it gives you a fashion buddy right there with you during your online experience, which will eliminate any of the friendship tests that you face when asking how an outfit looks on you!

The more you interact with this app the more it will become accustomed to your fashion tastes and the process is simple and easy, all you have to do is swipe left or right for a yes or no on certain products, which will then save the items or completely delete them, making it easier over time for you to find what items you are looking for.
So overall I think the Mallzee app is exceptional for the fashionista in all of us, it's a unique idea for online shopping and it's something that I think you all need to invest in, especially if your as mad as about online shopping as I am, because Mallzee simplifies the process allowing you to have a simple and hassle free shopping experience.
So if your thinking of downloading the Mallzee app, which I do highly recommend, just click on this link below to gain the newest version of the app.
